Qualter Hall, Tanzania
Bulyanhulu Gold Mine, Tanzania.
The mine is owned and operated by Canadian company Kahama Mining
Corp and is one of the biggest gold mines in the world, with a
depth of 1100m, which also makes it the deepest mine in Tanzania.
(Copper is also mined here.)
In consultation with Qualter Hall, Svendborg Brakes supplied an
intelligent braking control system, SOBO, the purpose of which is
to bring the skip to a safe and controlled stop, independent of
load and in case of total power failure.
The system includes redundant hydraulics and redundant Sobo V4
Panel with battery back-up.
The winder is a production winder with "dual skips", running on
average 700 times per day.
The brake system is activated an average of 30 times per 24 hour
period due to the extreme conditions.
